On a smoldering day in Toronto, we escaped the din of the city (not to mention the extreme heatwave) to the greatest little downtown getaway. The Toronto Islands are a chain of small islands in the city. They are located in Lake Ontario just offshore from the city centre. After a quick 15 minute fairy ride, we arrive at Hanlan's point, which is way quieter than Centre Island and hey, there's even a clothing optional beach (though, there are no sights you'd like to see).
The island is so laid back for Toronto and you know I always crave an escape.
Beaches, greenery, and scenery. Toes in the sand.
stay cool,

“The difficulty is that every firm step I win out of chaos is a firm step towards…more chaos. I throw a rope bridge, haul myself across the gap, and huddled on a little outcrop, safe for now, observe the view. What is the view? Another gap, another stretch of water.”
- Excerpt from Jeanette Winterson’s book, “Gut Symmetries”

The idea of beauty is essential to our culture. Whether or not it can be defined as being of natural or artificial character is not the main question here. Though beautiful, withering blossoms flowers are a strong symbol for the inevitable decay of every living being. A small area of a meadow with flowers is taken from its original location and put in the middle of a room, illuminated by daylight tubes. The wildflowers are mingled with artificial flowers, but in the mixture all flowers look natural. The light changes slowly and then in the dark only the artificial flowers shine brightly under the UV-light. Through the change of the illumination the viewer is disillusioned. The perception of the beauty of the flowers is not the same anymore. This moment imprints an irritation on the mind about the senses being so easily seduced.
I'm drawing so much lately! Scribbles, scribbles. I'll scan some when I can put my pencil down. Currently making a booklet of various animal skulls. Stay tuned.
