After a pleasant Bosphorus ferry crossings I explored the neighbourhood of Eminönü. Here, I visited the Spice Bazaar, Grand Bazaar and Yeni Camii (or New Mosque). Naturally, the neighbourhood was full of historical richness and life.
Spice Bazaar - copious spices, nuts, honey in the comb and olive-oil soaps. The bustling spice bazaar sells truckloads of figs, Turkish delight and dried fruit. I finally got to eat my first Baklava in Turkey. It did not disappoint.
nom nom nom.
nom nom nom part two. baklava of many yummy variations.
this kind gentleman provided me with sweet baklava.
bazaar-o bazaar wandering.
creepy mannequin boys.
mmmm.
Grand Bazaar - I experienced a breakdown of the senses and quickly became disoriented (lost) from all the choice of merchandise, combined chatter of the merchants and shoppers and there was always someone trying to get my attention to sell me something.
electrifying fabrics.
This bathroom really wanted my dirty toilet paper remains.
Yeni Camii (New Mosque): a grand Ottoman imperial mosque surrounded by wide open spaces and ample pigeon feeding.
heightened domes.
call to prayer.
